FIFA decision shocks England, Quansah ruled out for two matches

England have been dealt a serious blow ahead of the World Cup finals after FIFA banned defender Jarell Quansah for two matches following his red card in the round of 16 win over Mexico.

Quansah was sent off after a VAR review overturned the referee's initial decision. The defender was penalised for a dangerous sliding tackle on Jesus Gallardo, where his heels hit the opponent's leg.

Initially, the English FA was considering appealing the decision, taking as a precedent the case of American striker Folarin Balogun, whose one-match suspension was lifted by FIFA after a review process.

However, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee decided to ban Quansah for two matches, considering the tackle a violation of Article 14 of the Disciplinary Code, which relates to rough play and serious tackles.

As a result, the Bayer Leverkusen defender will miss England's quarter-final against Norway, as well as a possible semi-final against Argentina or Switzerland. His return to the pitch would only be possible in the World Cup final, should England reach that stage.
