A Berat Police operation, conducted in cooperation with the Prosecution, has cracked down on a suspected unlicensed foreign exchange activity that was being carried out in several money transfer entities in the region.

As part of the operation, 11 security measures have been executed. Four people have been placed under "House Arrest" measure, while seven others will be investigated at large with the measure "Obligation to report to the Judicial Police", as well as a ban on leaving the territory of Albania.

According to the investigations of the Economic and Financial Crimes Investigation Section, the illegal activity was carried out in six money transfer entities in Berat, Kuçovë, Skrapar and Dimal. These entities, managed or employed by the persons under investigation, are suspected of performing foreign exchange services without being equipped with the relevant license.

During the searches, the police seized 8,808,000 lek, 118,425 euros, 7,390 US dollars, 665 British pounds and 110 Swiss francs. 12 mobile phones, 4 DVR devices, 2 USBs and 1 laptop were also seized, which will be subject to expert examination as part of the investigation.

Investigations continue under the direction of the Berat Prosecutor's Office to fully uncover the suspected illegal activity and determine the criminal responsibilities of the persons involved.
