5 'barber houses' discovered in Lezha, two in handcuffs, 4 OSHEE

A police operation has uncovered five premises adapted for the cultivation of cannabis in the Lezha district, while two people have ended up in handcuffs.

The operation codenamed "Lightning" took place in the village of Velë, after several weeks of investigations and operational information about the cultivation of narcotics in closed environments and open plots.

During the checks, the blue uniforms discovered premises equipped with lamps and special systems for growing narcotic plants. A total of 174 Cannabis Sativa plants were destroyed, while two people were arrested in flagrante delicto.

According to the police, MF, 39 years old, owner of the apartment where one of the cultivation facilities was set up, and AM, 27 years old, resident of Shëngjin Island, were arrested.

During a search of the 39-year-old's apartment, police found a space equipped with electrical equipment and artificial lighting, where 119 narcotic plants had been cultivated. According to investigators, the electricity supply was carried out through illegal connections.

Two other premises prepared for cultivation were discovered in the same apartment, while two plots with another 55 cannabis plants were found nearby.

During the operation, two shotguns, electrical equipment used for cannabis cultivation, a quantity of suspected narcotics, a vehicle and 18 mobile phones were seized.

The police announced that during the search of the 27-year-old's apartment, 16 other cell phones were found, for which verifications regarding the method of security and the purpose of use are ongoing.

As part of the investigation, four OSHEE employees, who were group leaders, readers and electricians, were also prosecuted. They are suspected of the criminal offenses of "abuse of office" and "passive corruption", as they are suspected of having favored the activity through interference in the energy supply.

Investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals who may have been involved in this criminal activity. The procedural materials have been referred to the Lezha Prosecutor's Office for further action.
