The Special Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime has upheld the 28-year prison sentence for Ilir Selmani, found guilty of the murder of former police officer Santiago Malko, an event that occurred in August 2019 in Tirana.

The decision was made after a retrial of the case, ordered by the Supreme Court, which had overturned the previous Appeals Court decision and requested its review by another panel of judges.

With today's decision, the Appeal upheld the decision of the First Instance of the GJKKO, confirming the 28-year prison sentence against Selmani. He will return to a high-security prison to serve his sentence.

An appeal against this decision may be filed with the Supreme Court within 45 days.

On June 19, the Appeals Court of Kosovo changed Selmani's security measure from prison arrest to "house arrest", while the case was being retried.

According to the investigative file, Ilir Selmani, considered part of the group known as the "Duka Clan", had observed the movements of Santiago Malko along with another person, before the August 27, 2019 assassination attempt on "Xhanfize Keko" Street in Tirana.
