Residents and farmers near the city of Larissa in Greece continue to risk their lives every day, crossing a bridge that has been partially collapsed for nearly three years and has yet to be reconstructed.

The Palaiopyrgos Bridge was severely damaged in September 2023, when the devastating storm Daniel hit Greece and several other countries in the region, causing casualties and major infrastructure damage. In the Thessaly region alone, floods destroyed 79 bridges.

The central part of the bridge has sunk and is located only a few centimeters above the Pineios River, but despite its dangerous condition, drivers continue to use it to avoid a long detour.

Footage published by local media outlet LarissaNet, filmed with a drone, shows a Ford Ranger vehicle driving over the damaged section, in a maneuver that could have fatal consequences.

For local residents, the choice is between danger and a longer alternative route, which adds travel time and fuel costs, especially for farmers who travel this route every day.

Although the bridge is officially considered impassable, the lack of physical barriers has led many drivers to ignore the signs. The problem also affects tourists, as navigation apps continue to direct them towards the damaged bridge, forcing them to turn back only when faced with the collapsed road.
