Macabre crime in Italy, journalist Luigi Esposito shot dead

A serious crime has shocked Italy after a 53-year-old journalist and biologist was found murdered and burned in an isolated area of ​​the province of Salerno.

The body of Luigi Esposito, also known as Luca Esposito, was discovered in the early hours of Saturday, July 19, in the Cioffi district of the municipality of Eboli, following a bushfire alarm. Firefighters initially responded to the scene to put out the flames, followed by the Carabinieri, who discovered the victim's almost charred body.

The investigation was immediately led by the Salerno prosecutor, Alessandro Di Vico. Initial forensic examinations revealed that the 53-year-old had a gunshot wound, while a shell casing was found near his body. According to initial suspicions, the perpetrators first executed him and then set fire to his body, in an attempt to destroy the evidence.

Luigi Esposito was a biologist by profession and worked at the Regional Agency for the Campaign for the Protection of the Environment (ARPAC), where he dealt with environmental controls, especially on buffalo farms. In addition to his professional activity, he had also built a career in journalism.

Since 2012, he has been practicing the profession of an independent journalist, running the sports portal "Tutto Salernitana" and collaborating with Otto Channel television.

Italian authorities are continuing investigations to identify the perpetrators and to clarify the motives for the murder, while so far no investigative lead has been ruled out.
