"My job is done," Keir Starmer officially resigns

Keir Starmer has officially resigned as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, after King Charles III accepted his request to step down from the post.

According to a statement from Buckingham Palace, Starmer held a meeting with the British monarch this Monday, where he submitted his resignation as prime minister and as First Lord of the Treasury.

In his final statement outside the government headquarters in Downing Street, Starmer said that "my job is done," while thanking the staff who accompanied him during his term and his wife Victoria for their support.

He also wished success to his successor, Andy Burnham, who is expected to officially take office as British Prime Minister later in the day.

Burnham, currently leader of the Labour Party, will take over the government after Starmer leaves office.
