Flames engulf Iballa forests, arson suspected

A large fire has been burning since yesterday evening in a forest area in the Iballa area, in the Fushë-Arrëz municipality, making it difficult for emergency services to intervene.

The flames have engulfed the Iballe-Mezi forest area, above the Gere neighborhood of the Iballe village. Due to the steep terrain, the fire service has not been able to penetrate to the active hearth and is located near the center of the administrative unit.

Throughout the night, local residents, in collaboration with forest service workers, worked to contain the spread of the flames using emergency equipment.

According to preliminary data, the fire mainly involved a bushy area, while the possibility that it was caused intentionally cannot be ruled out.

To help extinguish the flames, a Ministry of Defense helicopter has also been involved in the operation, which is intervening from the air to isolate the source and prevent the fire from spreading further.
