Fire at waste landfill, toxic smoke invades Fushë-Krujë

Fire at waste landfill, toxic smoke invades Fushë-Krujë

Although rainfall has helped extinguish the flames in the mountain of waste in the village of Halil in Fushë-Krujë, the fire has not been completely neutralized. According to information from the field, the hearth continues to be active in the inner layers of the waste, producing large amounts of toxic smoke.

Throughout the night, Kruja firefighting forces, supported by the Institute's fire service, operated in the area in an attempt to isolate the fire and prevent its spread.

In the coming hours, heavy equipment, specifically excavators, is expected to intervene to cover the fire with soil. This method is considered the most effective for extinguishing fires in waste piles, as it cuts off the oxygen supply to the fire.

The situation becomes even more worrying due to the proximity of the fire to the reservoir that supplies drinking water to Fushë-Krujë and several surrounding villages, which has raised concerns about a potential risk to infrastructure and the environment.

Meanwhile, thick smoke has spread over a wide area, affecting Fushë-Krujë, Krujë, Kamza and even Thumanë, depending on the wind direction.
