Veliaj's lawyer fined for failing to appear at hearing

The court hearing at the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO) for the SPAK file against the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has been postponed due to the absence of the defense attorney, Plarent Ndreca.

According to reports, Ndreca was not present at the hearing as he was participating in another legal process at the Civil Court of Tirana. He had previously filed a request to postpone the trial, arguing that he was objectively unable to be present.

However, the panel decided to fine the lawyer 50,000 lek. According to the court, in the previous session he had not raised any claims regarding the date set for the hearing of the case, while his absence was the reason for the postponement of the process.

To guarantee the continuation of the trial, the GJKKO appointed lawyer Valentina Teodorescu as the main defense attorney for Erion Veliaj.

As for Ajola Xoxa, the court decided that the trial against her should take place in absentia, assessing that the medical report presented does not prove an objective inability to participate in the hearing.

The next hearing is scheduled for September 15 , at 10:00 a.m. The court also decided to suspend the detention terms for Erion Veliaj until the next hearing.
