Meta opposes the Prosecution, demands investigation into detention center

Former President Ilir Meta has addressed the Tirana Court following the Prosecutor's Office's decision not to launch an investigation regarding the complaint made by him.

Meta has objected to the non-initiation of proceedings and requests that the court order the Tirana Prosecutor's Office to investigate his claims against the employees of Detention Center 313.

In his complaint, the former president claims that his rights were violated while in detention, particularly regarding communication from the prison. He has filed charges of abuse of office against prison police officers, objecting to the way he was treated in 313.

The prosecution has decided not to initiate investigations, arguing that preliminary verifications do not reveal elements of a criminal offense.

Meta, however, insists that his complaint must be investigated and for this reason has addressed the criminal chamber of the Tirana Court.

The request is being reviewed by Judge Vjollca Spahiu in the consulting room, while the court's decision is awaited on whether the case will be returned for investigation or the Prosecution's decision will be left in force.
