Trial against the prosecutor who investigated him, 'Administrativja' dismisses Veliaj's lawsuit

Trial against the prosecutor who investigated him, 'Administrativja'

The Administrative Court has rejected the request of the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, regarding the appointment of Ols Dado to the position of prosecutor.

In its decision, the court assessed that Veliaj has no direct interest in this matter, but only an indirect interest, so the request cannot be considered.

The court has also rejected the requests to become a party to the process of former prosecutor Tom Deda and the Association for Media and Justice.

After the decision was announced, Veliaj's lawyer, Plarent Ndreca, described it as expected and stated that the case will continue in the Appeals Court.

"It was a test for the system, to see if it has the ability to self-correct. Dado was not appointed legally. The system did not show the ability to self-correct. There is no more serious problem than the appointment of a prosecutor who exercises his function illegally," said Ndreca.

According to him, the legal battle will continue at other levels of the judiciary.

" We will go to the Appeals Court after we have the court's decision. We will win this case ," the lawyer declared.

During the hearing, Erion Veliaj opposed the appointment of Ols Dado, claiming that he exercised a state function without legal right.

" It is evident that an asymmetry is being created. Actors who show public interest are being added to one side, while those who show interest are being removed from the other side. Someone has put on the state uniform and kidnapped me from my post ," Veliaj declared in the courtroom.
