Argentina's defeat to Spain in the 2026 World Cup final was followed by violent riots in the streets of Buenos Aires.
According to Infobae reports, the preliminary tally indicates at least 15 people were arrested, while several citizens and seven police officers were injured during the clashes.
The situation became tense near the Obelisk, the symbol of Buenos Aires, after some fans climbed over the protective fences. The crowd then began throwing glass bottles and hard objects at the police.
To restore control, law enforcement used tear gas, water cannons, and rubber bullets. The clashes lasted about 20 minutes, until police managed to disperse the crowd.
Footage released from the Argentine capital shows police armed with shields and batons chasing protesters through streets littered with debris. One photo shows an officer kicking a person lying on the ground.
