Ramush Haradinaj ready for Kosovo Presidency: I accept if the opposition

The former leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, has left open the possibility of running for President of the Republic of Kosovo, stating that he would accept the candidacy if proposed by the opposition parties.

In an interview for "Këndi i Debatit" on Tëvë1, Haradinaj emphasized that he is not offering his own name for this position, but would be willing to enter the race if the opposition saw him as a joint candidate.

"If the opposition were to enter the race with my name as a proposal for president, I would be ready. I am not offering myself, but if they consider that I should be a candidate, I would accept the candidacy," Haradinaj declared.

He spoke out against an agreement that, according to him, would give Vetëvendosje the opportunity to impose its candidate for President, arguing that the election of the head of state requires communication and agreement between the ruling party and the opposition.

"I am not offering myself to an agreement with Vetëvendosje. I have never been a candidate for president. I think there should be communication between the position and the opposition," he said.

Haradinaj also criticized the approach of the Vetëvendosje Movement and Prime Minister Albin Kurti to the process of electing the President, saying that the majority cannot decide alone on this issue.

According to him, if a democratic process is aimed at, there should be candidacies from both the ruling party and the opposition.

"If democracy is the goal, one president from the ruling party and one from the opposition should be proposed. Kurti has not won all the votes so that he alone can decide everything in Kosovo," Haradinaj declared.

He added that Vetëvendosje should not try to impose a single name for the position of President, also referring to the case of Feride Rushiti.

"VV cannot impose a candidate, as was the case with Feride Rushiti. Either that or elections," concluded Haradinaj.
