"There is new evidence", Lala: SPAK wiretapped Veliaj in Durrës

Journalist Klodiana Lala revealed details from today's hearing in the GJKKO Appeal against Mayor Erion Veliaj.

Invited to News 24, she said that SPAK's new evidence could worsen his position, as he was wiretapped with court authorization in the Durrës detention center. 

Lala said that the wiretaps date back to February 13, when Veliaj was transferred to the Durrës Detention Facility.

" The wiretapping, carried out with court authorization, was accompanied by concrete actions, orders to third parties given by Veliaj, which were implemented point by point. This evidence, according to prosecutors, shows that Veliaj has influence to intimidate witnesses," said journalist Klodiana Lala.

Journalist Lala says that other evidence that SPAK prosecutors already have in hand is mainly contracts entered into by Ajola Xoxe's companies in a fictitious manner, which according to SPAK also implicates Erion Veliaj.

"There are invoices seized from Ajola Xoxe's companies, also received from third parties such as taxes.

"Fictitious schemes have been created to launder money. According to SPAK, Veliaj has signed construction permits and tenders for certain entities and they have addressed gifts to his wife and in this way he has also benefited," said journalist Lala.

The journalist provided details from Tuesday's hearing in the GJKKO appeal, where Erjon Veliaj's defense lawyer, Ermir Beta, initially requested the complete repeal of the security measure, as according to him, there was no risk of Veliaj leaving the country.
