The government's decision to shut down TikTok has increased Albanians' desire to spend more time on this platform.

Within five days, the number of users on TikTok has tripled. According to IT experts, the desire to have this social network has now included even those who did not have one before, and this is done by downloading the free VPN application.

IT expert Tomi Kallaxha says: “Since there has been so much talk about these VPNs and people have been seized by the desire to access TikTok, which is blocked by telephone companies, in the top ten most downloaded applications, six of them are VPNs. While in tenth place is TikTok. While it is in the top twenty list, the number of users in March alone has increased by 60-80 thousand.”

But the phone is not only used for staying on TikTok. Albanians have also shown interest in education, sports, illegal betting, and series.

"A very specific keyword that is very interesting is that girls are looking for the best professions in information technology. We also have a large download of the series 'Adoleshenca', and finally, Albanians are obsessed with football and online betting," adds Kallaxha.

Although IT experts warn that using VPNs is dangerous and that users' data can be hacked and then misused, this call fell on deaf ears, as they prefer to have fun on TikTok over data./TCH
