The OSCE-ODIHR observation mission for the May 11 parliamentary elections has officially begun work in Tirana.

Ambassador Lamberto Zannier, in a press conference, said that 300 short-term observers from the OSCE-ODIHR will be on the ground to monitor standards and 26 observers will be long-term.

Zannier emphasized that there will be special attention to the implementation of previous ODIHR recommendations and to monitoring the campaign on social media.

"Today we officially open the OSCE-ODIHR election observation mission. For election day, we will request 300 short-term observers who will come to Albania shortly before the elections. On election day, there will be a broader component of observers, observers from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the European Parliament. The purpose of this mission will be to assess the conduct of this process, whether it will be in line with Albania's OSCE commitments and other obligations of Albania, as well as compliance with domestic legislation. We will closely monitor all aspects of the elections, such as the legal framework, the implementation of the campaign including on social networks, the work of the election administration at all levels, disputes and media coverage in general. As part of this process, there will also be meetings with representatives of the state, political parties, civil society, the media and the international factor ," declared Zannier.
