US Embassy reacts to return of experts to SPAK: Programs essential to US

As of last Thursday, all OPDAT experts, who were stationed at SPAK, have returned to their duties, after a period of suspension that followed the State Department's decision to suspend several programs.

A U.S. embassy official explained that some programs deemed essential to the national interests of the United States have been restored, while U.S. foreign assistance is still under review. This review is being conducted in accordance with President Trump's January 20 Executive Order, which called for the reassessment and reorganization of U.S. foreign assistance.

The response sent via email to Top Channel states: “ In accordance with President Trump’s January 20 Executive Order Reassessing and Reorganizing United States Foreign Assistance, Secretary Rubio initiated a review of all U.S. foreign assistance to ensure that programs are effective and consistent with U.S. foreign policy under the ‘America First’ agenda. Several programs deemed essential to U.S. national interests have resumed, while the foreign assistance review is still ongoing . ”

After the return of OPDAT experts, they held meetings with SPAK special prosecutors to discuss the continuation of cooperation and to clarify processes related to the fight against organized crime and corruption.

OPDAT, created in 1991 by the US Department of Justice, is a mechanism for combating transnational crime and aims to create partnerships with foreign authorities to prevent criminal activities before they touch American territory.
