Trump postpones the closure of TikTok, gives a new deadline... An additional 75

In a new development, President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he will postpone for another 75 days the implementation of the law requiring the sale or ban of TikTok in the US, thus giving the administration more time to finalize a deal that could allow the popular app to continue operating in this market.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump emphasized that "My government is working a deal to save TikTok and we have made great progress."

According to him, the proposed agreement still requires "further work to secure all the necessary approvals". The president's decision is intended to delay the application of the law, which would have called for a ban on TikTok if an agreement had not been reached by April 5.

This development comes after concerns raised by the US government regarding national security, due to TikTok's ties to the Chinese company ByteDance. The law, passed under the Biden administration, required ByteDance to withdraw from the app or face its ban in the US.

Potential deal and options for sale
The Trump administration has been considering the possibility of a deal, where TikTok assets would be passed on to American tech company Oracle and other US investors, with ByteDance potentially holding a minority stake. Despite these discussions, there is still no official confirmation of the conclusion of the agreement.

In an interview, TikTok's vice president of negotiations, Jay Dee Vance, expressed confidence that an agreement can be reached before the April 5 deadline. However, the recent delay suggests that the process will take longer.

Consequences for users and the future of TikTok The new
delay could allow TikTok's 170 million U.S. users to continue using the app, at least for a few more months. But the delay in finalizing a formal agreement has raised questions about the long-term future of the app, given that ByteDance and the Chinese government have not yet shown willingness to conclude the sale of TikTok.
