Margarita Xhepa's passing, tributes to the icon of Albanian cinematography

The icon of Albanian cinema, Margarita Xhepa, will be accompanied to her final resting place today. Tributes will be held from 10:00-13:00 in the lobby of the National Opera and Ballet Theater.

The Albanian artist passed away yesterday (April 3), a day after celebrating her 93rd birthday. Margarita Xhepa passed away in a private hospital in Tirana, where she had been hospitalized due to several pulmonary problems.

The actress was born on April 2, 1932, in the city of Lushnja, where she took her first steps towards her career. One of the Great Ladies of Albanian theater and film, she has carved the Albanian public memory with brilliant roles since its beginning, in the 60s and until now.

Since 1950, she has been active as a probist artist at the People's Theater and at the same time studied at the Artistic Lyceum, Drama branch. She has created over 150 roles in theater, among which we can mention; Majlinda in the play "Majlinda", Dafina in Lumi i detur, Filja in Cuca e maleve, Zonja Mëmë in Kush e solli Doruntinan, Nëna in Përballë vete etc. She has been equally successful in the roles of world dramaturgy, such as Ophelia in Hamlet, the second daughter in King Lear, the nanny in Romeo and Juliet, Queen Margaret in Richard III, by Shakespeare.

Other roles from world dramaturgy include Klea in The Fox and the Grapes, Lena in Uncle Vanya, Lady Milford in Louise Miller, Mrs. Berling in The Inspector's Visit, Mrs. Loman in Death of a Commissioner, Anna Andreyevna in The Auditor, Marcella in The Gardener's Dog, Mashenka in Mashenka, Shejla in The Morality of Mrs. Dulska, or Dado in Sophocles' Electra, under the direction of Greek director Dimitri Mavrikis, at the National Theater of Greece in Athens.

In addition to her roles in theater, the actress has also performed 32 roles in cinema, working with most Albanian directors. With K. Dhamon, she starred in The First Years and Traces, with I. Muçaj and K. Mitron, The Last Winter, Bloody Land, A Boy and a Girl and Apasionata, with Viktor Gjika, General Gramofoni, with E.

Musliu, The Circle of Memory and Years of Waiting, with Kujtim Çashku, The Warm Hand, with Dhimitër Anagnosti, The Stones of My House, with P. Milkani, Spring Did Not Come Alone, with S. Kumbaro, Concert in 1936, with Gj. Xhuvanian The Last Sunday and My Dear Enemy.

In 1997, she starred in the Greek film "Farewell." The film won the Grand Prize at the International Mediterranean Film Festival in Thessaloniki, while Margarita Xhepa won the Honorary Prize.

In May 2004, she returned to the stage of the National Theater to excel in the drama "Streha e të harruarve", another success in her 50-year career.
