"It is unknown if there are any casualties," Russia: Ukraine attacked

An industrial building in the Mordovia region of Russia was hit by Ukrainian drones on April 5, the governor of the region said in a statement on Telegram.

Governor Artyom Zdunov said emergency crews had arrived at the scene, but he did not say which industrial building had been attacked or whether there were any casualties from the attack.

Baza, a Telegram channel linked to Russian law enforcement, said an optical fiber factory in the city of Saransk, 820 kilometers from the border with Ukraine, was attacked.

A video was also published on this channel that claimed to show drone attacks on this factory.

Meanwhile, authorities in Kiev said Ukrainian air defenses have shot down 51 of the 92 drones that Russia launched overnight.

In a statement, the Ukrainian Air Force said another 31 drones were "lost" - a reference to the use of electronic devices to disrupt the operation of drones.

Ukraine, which has been facing a war launched by Russia since 2022, said that damage has been caused in the regions of Kiev, Zhytomyr, Sumy and Dnipropetrovsk as a result of recent Russian attacks.

Reports of new attacks in Ukraine and Russia come a day after Moscow's forces carried out deadly attacks in Ukraine./REL
