Four tips for coping with the heat wave

Four tips for coping with the heat wave

Hot summer days are wonderful when we are by the sea or in an air-conditioned home, but the reality is different when the heat becomes an obstacle to daily life. In these cases, we need quick, practical and effective ways to lower the temperature, both of our body and of the environment.

Below we give you 4 tips that really work:

1. Wet your wrists with cold water.

If you don't have access to a cool shower or a dip in the pool, simply wetting your wrists with cold water can work wonders. The wrists are where blood vessels are closest to the skin's surface, so cooling these areas helps to gradually lower your body temperature.

Experts recommend wetting your wrists or ankles before bed, as it can help you fall asleep more easily. You can also apply cold compresses for a few seconds to your neck, forearms, or behind your knees.

2. Refresh yourself with mint

Peppermint is more than just a summer scent; it contains menthol, an ingredient that activates a cooling sensation on the skin. Peppermint essential oil, when mixed with a carrier oil (like almond oil), can be lightly applied to the neck or body for a cooling effect.

Preparation: Mix one drop of peppermint essential oil with 30 ml of carrier oil. Apply to skin for an immediate feeling of freshness.

Note: it doesn't actually lower your body temperature, but it helps you feel better.

3. Choose foods rich in water

When it's very hot, our appetite decreases, but the body still needs energy and hydration. Fruits and vegetables with a high water content, such as watermelon, cantaloupe, cucumbers and strawberries, are the ideal solution. They are light, refreshing and rich in nutrients.

4. Place the fan in the right place

If you don't have air conditioning, a fan can be a real helper, just place it properly. Position it in front of an open window or door to create air circulation that "pushes" hot air out and allows cooler air to circulate.

Tip: place a bowl of ice cubes in front of the fan for an even more refreshing effect!
