Scorching temperatures in France close the Eiffel Tower

Paris is on red alert for high temperatures, causing the Eiffel Tower to close as a heatwave continues across Europe.

France's meteorological agency, Meteo France, has placed 16 regions on red alert for heatwaves today, the BBC reports.

The affected areas include: Val-d'Oise, Yvelines, Paris, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-et-Marne, Essonne, Aude, Yonne, Loiret, Loir-et-Cher, Cher, Indre-et-Loire, Indre and Vienne.

The country's education ministry announced that up to 1,350 public schools will be closed, partially or completely, today due to high temperatures.
