Law 'On Protected Areas' in Constitutional Court, Zhupa: 3 serious violations of the Constitution, no construction restrictions

Law 'On Protected Areas' in Constitutional Court, Zhupa: 3 serious

The Constitutional Court has held its first plenary session, on the opposition to the law 'On Protected Areas' in our country, following the lawsuit of Democratic MP Ina Zhupa.

In a statement to the media, the democratic legislator spoke of three serious violations of the Constitution of the Republic, starting with the passage of the law without public consultation, the failure to restrict construction, as well as the financial bill for protected areas, bringing attention to the latest violation, the Vjosa National Park.

As the DP MP's lawsuit was joined by two environmental organizations, Zhupa said that what is being requested by the Constitutional Court is respect for European standards and international conventions, of which Albania is a part.

Zhupa brought to attention the fact that the law does not provide for restrictions on construction in protected areas, where the only limit is the appetite of Prime Minister Edi Rama.

"The first session in the CC of the law 'On protected areas'. 3 serious violations of the Constitution have been committed. First, it passed without a proper public consultation process. Second, the law has no restrictions regarding construction, the only limit is Edi Rama's appetite. If Rama decides, then this is permissible. Third, unlike how much they have deceived in the parliamentary procedure. The law has a financial bill that has been hidden and not reported. 820 thousand euros are spent on the Vjosa River National Park. You have seen the degradation, and we do not know where this money goes for the administration office of the Vjosa National Park. These 3 violations are enough for the Constitutional Court to make a fair decision.

In this lawsuit, we are not asking for anything more than European standards where Albania is a party to the conventions and respect for the Constitution. To date, there is no formula for concrete to produce oxygen. We have a duty to protect the public interest and not allow the destruction of protected areas for Rama's appetite. We will continue the session today and will continue to inform you of the decision-making of the Court of Cassation. And we hope that it will be at the right height and make a decision in accordance with the citizens and the Constitution ," said Zhupa.
