Tirana-Durrës road in scandalous condition, millions of euros for

The road segment from Tirana to Durrës has become a nightmare for its users. Vehicles encounter traffic, dust, asphalt and huge potholes, while in long sections it is very difficult to pass.

Accidents are reported every day, some resulting in human casualties and others in material damage. Not to mention tire punctures or other injuries.

But, in this whole situation, have measures been taken?! The Albanian Road Authority, as the "owner" of the road, has been opening the "bag" for almost 1 year, where for just one segment it pays 3 to 4 times. Large tenders have been opened for the reconstruction or expansion of the road, tenders have been opened for the maintenance of the segment, tenders for signage and now even a tender for filling the potholes.

In 2024, the ARA opened two tenders worth 32.4 million euros for the expansion of the Tirana - Durrës highway. For one of the lots, from the Kamza Turn to the Kashari overpass, works have begun, while another lot has been tendered, up to Sukth. In total, 170 million euros have been allocated, while long sections of the road have become full of potholes.

Meanwhile, in recent days, the Albanian Road Authority has opened another tender for this segment. According to the documents, the object of the procurement procedure is “emergency repair of asphalt substrates and layers on the Vorë – Dajlanit Bridge road segment”. The amount allocated for this segment is 77,176,271 lekë, or about 800 thousand euros.

But, when companies receive 170 million euros for construction, several million for maintenance and signage, why do they need another 800 thousand euros to fill the potholes?!

Time has shown that, in every road that is built in Albania, there are major behind-the-scenes operations, where state officials favor one or the other firm. Some officials are in prison, others convicted or even under investigation with various security measures. Perhaps for this road, as in every corner of Albania, there may be investigations or even expected investigations. Law enforcement agencies only need to "follow the money"./ Vox News
