A fire broke out this afternoon in the waste collection area, in the area known as the "landfill" near the Elbasan Incinerator. 

In an effort to isolate the source of the fire, firefighters from Tirana have also gone to Elbasan, as the intensity of the flames is high and extinguishing them is difficult.  

The General Director of Fire Protection and Rescue, Arben Cara, has explained the arrival of aid from municipalities around Elbasan. Due to the debris, foam is being used to extinguish the fire, but the flames are still burning at high intensity.

"For the current fire that we are in, we have also engaged 60 firefighting forces from several neighboring municipalities. We have also received two vehicles from the Tirana region, from Kamza we have received firefighting vehicles from Berat and all the neighboring municipalities that the Elbasan region has. Intensive work is being done to isolate the fire source.

Of course, we are dealing with waste that is very difficult to extinguish, as a special specification is required, such as foam in this case. Foam is being used by all vehicles. We are bringing foam from Tirana and several other cities, so that we can isolate the fire in the shortest possible time.

"Also, the municipality itself has put several foam trucks in motion, trucks, as you can see, to isolate the waste with the waste of the Shkumbini River, because if we do not use foam on this waste, the fire will continue intensively. The fire is very widespread. We have managed to isolate it so that it does not spread, so that the houses around it are not at risk ," said Cara.
