Serbian Interior Minister: Our engagement has prevented the execution of arrest

The acting Minister of Internal Affairs in Serbia, Ivica Dacic, said that his country's commitment has prevented the arrest warrants for the president of the Republika Srpska entity, Milorad Dodik, and the speaker of the Parliament of this entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nenad Stevandic, from being implemented.

According to the announcement, this has "provided security" for Serbian citizens, namely Dodik and Stevandic.

On March 27, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina asked INTERPOL to issue a “red notice” for Dodik and Stevandic, who are suspected of having committed the criminal offense of “attacking the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

Serbia has sent a note of protest to INTERPOL regarding the arrest warrants for Dodik and Stevandic, saying they violate an article of the statute that stipulates that any action if it has a political, military, religious or racial background is strictly prohibited.

On March 27, Dacic stated that Dodik and Stevandic are citizens of Serbia and that the international arrest warrants that Bosnia was referring to did not constitute grounds for action as they had not gone through the verification process to see if the conditions were met.

In the April 1 announcement, it said that the request for international arrest warrants is currently in the "preliminary review phase by the Task Force for International Arrest Warrants at INTERPOL, which is verifying compliance with the organization's statute and rules."

The final decision is made by the INTERPOL Files Control Commission, which meets at least three times a year and, according to the announcement by the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs, the next session is scheduled for the period between April 7 and 11.

"The Republic of Serbia respects international institutions and the legal framework, but will not deviate from its procedures in protecting the rights and interests of its citizens," the statement said.

The announcement also states that Serbia will remain committed to this process and will actively participate in all steps "to ensure that the decision is made in favor of our citizens, justice and legality."/ REL
