GJKKO postpones decision on Rexhë Byberi, caused over 277 million lek in

The Special Court has postponed the decision for the socialist mayor of Tropoja, Rexhë Byberi, and the deputy mayor, Abedin Kërrnaja.

Byberi and Kërrnaja's lawyers claimed during today's session that the investigations are incomplete and requested that the file be returned for additional investigations, emphasizing that, according to the materials submitted to the court, there is no evidence of a criminal offense.

The decision is expected to be made at the next session, which will take place on April 15, at 11:00.

Both of them have been indicted by SPAK for committing the criminal offense of "Abuse of office" (more than once), committed in collaboration.

Rexhë Byberi and Abedin Kërrnaja are accused by SPAK of opening the new road "Palç Ship Station-Guri i Lules", a completely new construction, 80% of which passes through the existing pedestrian street.

According to SPAK, the works were carried out in violation of legal and bylaws, approved by decision of the Municipal Council and the prefect of the Kukës District, causing damage of over 277 million lek.

SPAK says that for the opening of a new road, the interested party had to apply to the electronic e-permit system, at the Tropoja Municipality, as a local institution that has the authority to review and approve the infrastructure construction permit, and to cooperate with other competent institutions for the construction of the road, which has not happened.

Rexhë Byberi is currently under house arrest.
