Eurovision 2025: The way qualifying countries are announced changes

It seems that Eurovision 2025 will bring changes to the announcement of countries that qualify from the semi-finals, increasing the element of suspension. According to what was revealed in an SRF documentary, the script seems to envisage the introduction of three countries at the same time, where only one of them is announced at the end as a passer-by - an approach reminiscent of talent shows, such as the X Factor. The change is expected to be tested in the general rehearsal of the first semi-final on May 12.

The information comes from the SRF documentary "Der Weg zum ESC 2025" ("Road to Eurovision 2025"), which allegedly reveals the new format for announcing the semi-final qualifiers. As reported by ESC Discord, the scenario presented in the documentary speaks of the placement of seats in groups of three, of which only one qualifies, thus increasing tension.

The possibility of changes to the notification method had already been announced by Eurovision 2025 executive producers Reto Peric and Moritz Stadler, who, speaking on The Euro Trip Podcast, stated that the goal is to add "more excitement and suspense" to the semi-final experience.

Similar experiments were carried out in 2023, at the Liverpool competition, during rehearsals, when all participants took the stage together for the announcement, in the style of the X Factor.
