Former CIA chief reveals the European country Putin will attack next

David Petraeus, a respected former American general and CIA chief, also claimed that Lithuania would be more at risk.

He said Russia could launch an incursion into that Baltic state to test Western resolve or as a precursor to a wider offensive, according to the Daily Mail.

Petraeus, who led the CIA after a distinguished military career, also criticized US President Donald Trump for repeatedly giving second chances to Putin and attacked his predecessor Joe Biden for failures to adequately arm Ukrainian forces.

Petraeus, who led tens of thousands of American, British and other nationalities troops in both Iraq and Afghanistan, also called on the UK to withdraw from international agreements banning the use of cluster munitions on the battlefield.

He said these weapons could be a crucial deterrent.

Speaking at the Policy Exchange think tank in London, Petraeus said: "What we've seen are three incidents where the President of the United States has threatened that within two weeks we're going to have to pursue a different approach."

"We'll see this time what will actually happen. The US also delayed too much on individual decisions, such as the M1 [Abrams] tanks. A blind man on a dark night could see that it had to be the F-16 [a multi-role fighter jet]."
