Car full of contraband cigarette cartons, 48-year-old arrested in Kapshtica

The Kapshtica customs border police have arrested a person who attempted to smuggle dozens of cartons of cigarettes and food products into Albania.

Citizen SL, 48 years old, resident of the village of Plug, Lushnje, has been arrested and is accused of the criminal offense of "Smuggling of excise goods".

"At the entrance to the Republic of Albania, at the Kapshtica Border Crossing Point, the Border Police services passed to the second line for a detailed check of a vehicle driven by citizen SL, 48 years old, resident of the village of Plug, Lushnje. During the check carried out in the vehicle, 32 cartons of cigarettes and some food products were found hidden, which citizen SL was attempting to bring into Albania without declaring, in violation of the law." - the announcement states.

Police report that they have seized, as material evidence, the smuggled goods hidden in the vehicle driven by the 48-year-old.

The procedural materials have been referred to the Korça Prosecutor's Office for further action.
