World Bank Report, PL: Confirms that the majority of Albanians live in poverty

The Freedom Party has reacted after the latest World Bank report, calling poverty in Albania a daily reality, not just a statistical indicator.

In a statement to the media, the Secretary for Public Relations, Arla Merja, accused the government of abandoning the vast majority of Albanian citizens and that Albania ranks among the poorest countries in the Western Balkans.

The government has abandoned the majority of Albanians. The latest World Bank report brings to light a bitter truth. The latest World Bank report confirms what Albanians feel every day in their pockets and lives, the vast majority of the population lives in conditions of poverty, without economic security, without decent access to basic services and with an uncertain future. This sad reality is a direct consequence of the repeated failures and lack of vision of the current government. Albania remains at the highest level of poverty in the Western Balkans, and has a high gap compared to the global standard of well-being of 25 USD per day per person. Our country's income must increase at least three times to reach this standard. 


Instead of building policies that support the needy, the government has concentrated resources on luxury projects and in favor of a wealthy minority, deepening inequality and creating a dangerous social divide. Millions of euros are spent on facades, while thousands of Albanian families live without energy, without heating, without enough food and without any prospects.

'Poverty is not just a statistical indicator, but an everyday reality: children dropping out of school to work, young people emigrating en masse, the elderly surviving on ridiculous pensions. This situation is unacceptable and requires an urgent response. We call on domestic and international institutions, civil society and every honest citizen to raise their voice against this irresponsibility. Albania needs a government that works for the majority, not for a small elite.
