Businesses "forgot" to pay for elections, liabilities reached 4.7

The Tax Administration announced that during May 2025, an increase in unpaid tax liabilities was recorded in the amount of 4.7 billion lek.

In order to inform taxpayers and avoid unnecessary coercive measures, the Tax Administration calls on taxpayers to pay their tax obligations within the legal deadlines!

Failure to pay tax obligations on time, according to Law No. 9920/2008 "On Tax Procedures in the Republic of Albania", as amended, charges you not only with fines and late payment interest, but also with coercive measures, which make it difficult to develop your economic activity.

Also, the Tax Administration informs that until the law on tax debt forgiveness enters into force, as part of the fiscal peace package, taxpayers are obliged to repay tax liabilities to avoid austerity measures, the tax notice concludes.

Earlier, at the beginning of May, the majority presented "Fiscal Peace", which provides for the cancellation of tax liabilities accumulated for more than 10 years and the partial forgiveness of 5 to 10-year liabilities.

This initiative has been debated among experts because, in addition to the moral damage it creates for regular taxpayers, it could encourage non-payment of obligations pending an amnesty that usually occurs before elections./ Monitor.al
