15 people arrested for cyber fraud and misuse of bank cards in Gjilan

The Basic Prosecution Office in Gjilan has announced that, following investigative actions, it has detained fifteen people suspected of committing criminal offenses related to computer fraud and misuse of bank cards.

The detainees are suspected of having acted in an organized manner during the period January-October 2024 in the municipality of Viti to illegally obtain property through interference in the computer system of a banking institution.

According to the Prosecution, they exploited a 15-second time gap during the synchronization of transactions between online banking services and ATMs to withdraw various amounts of money from Raiffeisen Bank, causing a total damage of 186 thousand euros.

The prosecution also announced that detention will be requested against the detainees, due to the well-founded suspicion that they have committed the criminal offenses of "Computer Fraud" and "Issuing of bad or false checks and misuse of bank or credit cards"./ REL
