The first case of small cattle plague in the country is confirmed

The first case of rinderpest in the country has been confirmed. 

The National Veterinary and Plant Protection Authority has confirmed the first case of Peste de petits ruminants (PPR) in Shkodra.

The case was identified on a goat breeding farm in the Postribë administrative unit. 

" Following confirmation of the case, all measures provided for in the relevant legislation and in the National Contingency Plan for PPR were immediately taken, with the aim of controlling, isolating and effectively managing the situation on the ground.

"We call on all farmers and breeders of small animals (sheep and goats) to implement preventive measures and limit the movement of animals inside and outside the farms. In any case of the appearance of suspicious symptoms, such as high fever, runny nose, eye inflammation, decreased appetite, diarrhea or sudden death, the relevant Regional Veterinary Service should be immediately notified or the toll-free number should be contacted: 0800 3366 ," the announcement states. 
Peste de Peixe Ruminants is not a zoonotic disease, therefore it is not transmitted to humans and does not pose any risk to public health.
