May 11 elections, KAS decides on a full recount of votes in Tirana

The Complaints and Sanctions Commission (KAS) has decided today to open the ballot boxes in the Tirana district, as part of the review of the complaint requests for the results of the parliamentary elections of May 1, 2025. The KAS decision comes after reviewing the request filed by the Coalition "Democratic Party - Alliance for a Greater Albania".

This coalition sought:

Objection to decision no. 1326, dated 24.05.2025, of the CEC, which approved the final result of the elections in the Tirana region;
Declaring the May 11 elections in this area invalid;
Repeating the electoral process for the entire region.


However, by a majority vote, the KAS rejected the request to declare the elections invalid and repeat them. Despite this, the members of the KAS, Mr. Elvis Çefa and Mr. Ledio Braho, based on article 136, point 3 of the Electoral Code, proposed and decided to conduct an inspection and recount of the ballot boxes for the Tirana district.

The process of opening the boxes is expected to begin at a later date, once the necessary logistics for its development are prepared.

This development could bring changes to the calculation of mandates, especially for candidates who had narrow vote margins, bringing attention back to the integrity and transparency of the electoral process in the country's largest district.
