May 11th Elections/Balliu: The European Parliament condemned the electoral farce

Democratic Party MP Klevis Balliu has declared that the European Parliament has condemned the May 11 elections, describing them as an electoral farce.

According to him, this finding is also reinforced by the OSCE report, and that the recent elections do not meet the minimum standards to consider Albania prepared for integration into the European family.

He called on international factors for institutional intervention in order to restore citizens' trust in the electoral process.

Klevis Balliu's post:

The European Parliament has firmly condemned the electoral farce orchestrated by Edi Rama, clearly exposing the manipulation of the citizen's will through vote-rigging and the documented links between the government and elements of organized crime.

Michael Gahler, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs in the European Parliament and head of the delegation of MEPs who closely followed the May 11 process, stated that organized crime in Albania has seized the electoral process and is hindering any chance for a free and democratic rotation of power.

This important finding is also reinforced by the OSCE mission report, which emphasizes that the recent elections do not meet the minimum standards to consider Albania prepared for integration into the European family.

In line with this stance, IDU-CDI has denounced massive vote buying, the illegal use of state assets during the election campaign, as well as the systematic pressure exerted on citizens, as a strategy orchestrated by the government to distort the final result.

The European People's Party (EPP) has also stressed the importance of establishing a specialized group to collect and analyze facts and evidence related to this electoral farce.

In this context, attempts to legitimize this process as an “election” constitute not only a deep insult to citizens, but also a serious challenge to the fundamental principles of democracy.

We call for an immediate response from the international community and for strong institutional interventions that will ensure the restoration of citizens' trust in the electoral process and in the functioning of the rule of law.
