The trial of Leonard Duka and other defendants, accused of the murder of former police officer Santiago Malko, has been postponed to June 12. The reason for the postponement of the trial was the absence of one of the members of the jury and the prosecutor in the case.

Both are engaged in parallel in another important judicial process, where the testimony of the justice collaborator, Artan Tafani, is being heard, who has begun the dismantling of the criminal activity of Laert Haxhiu's gang.

The incident for which Leonard Duka and others are being tried took place on August 27, 2019 in the “Xhamlliku” area of Tirana. Santiago Malko, a former police officer, was executed in his “BMW X5” car. He was a well-known name to the authorities, involved in several criminal events and had questionable connections with state administration structures.

The Prosecution has filed charges against eight people for this murder. The group suspected of carrying out the assassination is headed by the brothers Leonard and Erlis Duka. According to the investigation file, also involved in this murder are: Ilir Selmani, Ervis Metani, Fatmir Hyseni, Dritan Agaj, Aleksandër Maxhaku and Xhoni Nica.

The trial against them is considered high-risk and is expected to shed light on the involvement of criminal groups in the elimination of figures linked to the underworld, but also to state institutions.
