"Skënder's son and Gjergj's daughter, an Albania without competition"

The Albanian website "Lolita" has made a post in which it writes with satirical notes that: "I don't take my daughter to Oxford because I don't want someone as great as Endri Shabani to come to me."

Immediately after this statement, the chairman of the "Nisma Thurje", Endri Shabani, reacted. Through a post on Instagram, Shabani writes that Gjergj Luca is not the only one who mocks the fact that he studied at Oxford University.

"At Oxford University, Skënder's son and Gjergj's daughter compete as equals. If he deserves it, they accept Skënder's son, and even give him a scholarship. But even when you lose, I know that with more effort, you will succeed next time. Because there is competition," Shabani writes, among other things.

Shabani has stated that Gjergj Luca wants a system that works only for his children, while he is trying to build an Albania where every child, regardless of their last name, has the opportunity to succeed in life.

Skanderbeg's son and George's daughter

Gjergj Luca is not the only one who mocks the fact that I studied at Oxford University.

His mockery hides a deeper insecurity. It hides the fear that somewhere, someone has reached a place where their child may not be able to go without merit.

This hurts. Not just Gjergji, but all those who are used to buying everything: power, glory, diplomats, and people. Because they can't stand the idea that there are some things that aren't put on the table of power.

Because they have money, they also want to buy the respect of society.

They even consider ordinary Albanians inferior, because they are so poor that all they have is money.

But there is another reason. Those who have become rich like Gjergj Luca know very well who they would be if they lived in a society where there was real competition...

At Oxford University, Skënder's son and Gjergj's daughter compete as equals. If he deserves it, they accept Skënder's son, and even give him a scholarship. But even when you lose, you know that with more effort, you will succeed next time. Because there is competition.

In Albania, Skënder's son has no chance of competing with Gjergji's daughter, because there is no competition. Jobs in Albania are awarded over dinners, not in competitions. And if you don't succeed, you know that you need 'a friend' not a doctorate.

Can you imagine Gjergji's daughter not being accepted to the University of Tirana? No. Well, Skënder's son was rejected, even after his doctorate at Oxford.

This is why Gjergji and I are on opposite sides, because we fight for two opposite things.

He will hold on to this rotten system with his nails. I want to crumble it a minute ago.

He sets up monopolies, I want competition.

He will buy things, I want everyone to get what they deserve.

He wants a system that works only for his children, I try to build an Albania where every child, regardless of their last name, has the opportunity to succeed in life. And why not, one day 'grow up'?
