Michelle Obama reignites divorce rumors with Barack Obama

Former US First Lady Michelle Obama has brought speculation about a crisis in her marriage to Barack Obama back into the spotlight after a recent interview in which her comments raised more doubts than they provided clarity.

Guesting on NPR's Wild Card podcast with journalist Rachel Martin, Michelle spoke about the ongoing rumors of a possible divorce, but without explicitly denying them. "The fact that people don't see me on a date with my husband fuels rumors about the end of our marriage," she said with a touch of irony.

When the reporter jokingly called this the "apocalypse," Michelle responded:
"It's the apocalypse. We don't take selfies. We don't post pictures on Instagram every minute of our lives."

Although she said it humorously, her statement did not silence the public. On the contrary, her absences from public events with Barack this year, including the presidential inauguration and the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter, have further fueled rumors of a rift between the couple.

Rumors grew even more after she appeared at a luxury beach club in Majorca, in the company of her daughters and a friend, but without her husband. This was seen by many followers as another signal of a crisis in the couple.

Michelle herself commented on the breakup as a personal choice for more privacy:
"One of the biggest decisions I made this year was to stay home and not attend funerals, inaugurations and all the things I have to do."

However, the lack of clear denials and the public distance between the Obama couple continues to fuel suspicions of a serious crisis in their marriage. So far, neither Barack nor his spokespeople have reacted.
