Haxhiu: If I don't get 61 votes in a secret ballot, I will withdraw

The Vetëvendosje Movement's candidate for speaker of the Kosovo Assembly, Albulena Haxhiu, has vowed to withdraw if MPs do not vote for her in a secret ballot.

Speaking at a press conference before the constitutive session, Haxhiu called on parliamentary parties to vote for the formation of a secret ballot committee for the speaker of parliament.

"If I, as the candidate proposed by the Vetëvendosje Movement, do not receive at least 61 votes, I will withdraw from the candidacy for Speaker of the Parliament," said Haxhiu.

As far as we know, the secret ballot has been opposed a full 28 times by PDK, LDK, AAK and the Serbian List, which each time refused to propose a member for the formation of a secret ballot commission, since Haxhiu failed to receive the necessary 61 votes in an open vote.

Haxhiu is seen as a "divisive figure" by some of these parties./ REL
