Emigration brings 2 thousand euros a year to every Albanian family, 1/4 of them

Journalist Neritan Sejamini, on the show "Thjesht", addressed the topic of remittances and their impact on the economy and finances of Albanian families.

According to the journalist, figures show that even in 2025, Albanians will survive only on the money sent by their emigrant family members.

"Without this support, tens of thousands of citizens would live in complete poverty," said Sejamini, adding that "the average remittances in terms of amount are around 2 thousand euros per year for each family."

"¼ of the families that received remittances from emigrant relatives during 2018 had them as their only source of income. So approximately 6% of Albanian families were supported only by emigrant money," he further explained.

Sejamini also revealed that in the period 1992-2002, the first decade of the country's transition, total foreign investment in Albania was estimated at 800 million dollars.

"For the same period, remittances from Albanian emigrants in Albania reached 4 billion dollars, almost 5 times more than foreign investments. The primary role of remittances has been that of alleviating poverty and supporting Albanian families," the journalist emphasized.
