"He killed a good group of politicians", Bregu: Basha drove us out

Former Minister of European Integration, former Democratic Party MP, Majlinda Bregu, recently appointed Commissioner to the Pan-European Commission on Climate and Health by the World Health Organization in Europe, spoke about the period when the DP was led by Lulzim Basha.

While she was invited to the "Interview" show with Mirela Milori on Euronews Albania, she said that a large group of figures left the Democratic Party, adding that there is currently a lack of desire for the DP to return to the strength and power it had before.

She said that with a drop of Lulzim Basha's pen, a large group of figures and MPs left the DP, including herself, Ridvan Bode, Astrit Patozi, Jozefina Topalli and others.

"A good group of us left the DP with a decision, with a stroke of the pen. None of us left the DP on our own, but we left as I, Ridvan Bode, Astrit Patozi, Jozefina Topalli and a bunch of MPs, a good group. The DP had a leadership with a hero model and a militancy very much in favor of the hero leader model, the main figure of the political legend.

Then, because of this model, he failed to create something sustainable. I'm sorry to repeat, I have nothing personal against Basha, but he confirmed himself in the last elections: in politics, you either do it or you don't. It's pointless to prolong it – you either do it or you don't. It's not that Qamet doesn't do it in politics, but Lulzim Basha prolonged this part of understanding that he doesn't do it in politics. It wasn't his fault, because the legendary president gifted him the party, and when you have something as a gift, even pain doesn't do anything to you, because you see it as a toy. So many years went to waste and I'm sorry that the DP, with a clear conscience and without pain, killed a good group of politicians ," she added.

According to her, Basha was a ridiculous leader at the head of the opposition, while in politics you either become a leader or you don't. Unfortunately, Bregu said that Basha didn't want to understand this and this was sealed in the 2025 elections.

Experiments with people appointed only to fill out electoral lists, who entered parliament after the DP boycott, according to her, made the mission in politics even more ridiculous.
