Trump criticizes Israeli prosecutors over Netanyahu's corruption trial

US President Donald Trump lashed out at prosecutors in Israel over the corruption trial facing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying Washington, after providing billions of dollars in aid to Israel, would not "tolerate this", Reuters reports .

Netanyahu was indicted in Israel in 2019 on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust - all of which he denies. The trial began in 2020 and involves three criminal cases.

On Friday, the court rejected a request from Netanyahu's lawyers to postpone his testimony for the next two weeks due to diplomatic and security issues following the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran this month.

He will appear in the dock on Monday for questioning.
"It is INSANE to do what the unchecked prosecutors are doing to Bibi Netanyahu," Trump said in a post on Truth Social, claiming that the trial would interfere with Netanyahu's ability to hold talks with the Palestinian militant group Hamas and Iran.

A spokesman for the Israeli prosecutor's office declined to comment on Trump's post. Netanyahu on X retweeted Trump's post and added: " Thank you again, @realDonaldTrump. Together, we will make the Middle East Great Again!"

Trump's second tweet in as many days defending Netanyahu and calling for the trial to be overturned went a step further by linking Israel's legal action to U.S. aid.
"The United States of America spends billions of dollars a year, far more than any other nation, defending and supporting Israel. We will not accept that, " Trump said.
Netanyahu was "right now" in the process of negotiating a deal with Hamas, Trump said, without giving further details. On Friday, the Republican president told reporters he believed a ceasefire was imminent.
