The repentant justice official speaks at the GJKKO: The first meeting with Laert
A shocking testimony was given today at the Special Court against Organized Crime and Corruption (SCOC), in the trial against Laert Haxhiu's gang. For the first time in the courtroom, Artan Tafani, a repentant justice official, spoke, confessing his involvement in the criminal network and connections with key figures in the gang.

"I was an immigrant in Greece, where I got involved with drugs, then I returned to Albania. In 2015 I was imprisoned for theft due to economic problems. I served my sentence in the Rrogozhina prison and the Kosovo prison in Lushnje," Tafani declared before the jury.

He said that his life took a dramatic turn in his childhood. "In 1997, my father was killed in the village of Karbunarë. I was little when I fled with my mother to Greece. We had a family business with construction materials. At first, I worked honestly in Greece with paints and varnishes, but then I got involved in the wrong path."

After returning to Albania in 2006, Tafani started working with his uncle in construction. He quit drugs for a while, but later got involved in criminal activities again. After robbing a Western Union branch, he was arrested and sentenced to 6 years in prison.
