Murder of Chief Commissioner Artan Cuku / Prosecution closes investigations,

The Prosecution Office at the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction in Tirana has completed the investigations into the murder of the former director of the Vlora Police, Chief Commissioner Artan Cuku, an event that occurred in 2017. The prosecution has requested a life sentence for the two defendants BJ (alias BM) and KL (alias GK) for the criminal offense of "Murder of State Police employees", committed in collaboration, as well as for "Illegal possession and production of weapons and ammunition", based on articles 79/b, 25 and 278/1 of the Criminal Code.

According to the Prosecution's investigations, the motive for the crime was revenge. BJ, a person of high social risk and previously investigated for serious criminal events, is suspected of having ordered the murder of Cuku, after the latter had arrested him at the time when he was leading the Vlora Police. To carry out the assassination, BJ connected with KL and citizen M.Sh., who was promised a reward of 20 thousand euros and escape to Germany after committing the crime.

M.Sh., who physically carried out the execution, was arrested immediately after the event and admitted his authorship, cooperating with the justice system. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison due to his agreement with the justice system and the remorse he showed.

The evidence collected shows that the murder was committed with premeditation and with the motive of revenge and profit. BJ is accused as the organizer of the crime, KL as an aide and accomplice, and M.Sh. as the executor.

The prosecution has requested that both defendants BJ and KL be found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment for their role in the elimination of Chief Commissioner Cuku, who was one of the most well-known figures in the Albanian police.
