Protest in Lushnje over hospital conditions: citizens denounce state negligence

Citizens of Lushnja have taken to the streets this Sunday to protest, raising serious concerns about the state of the Regional Hospital and the lack of basic health services. Protesters have denounced the difficult conditions within the institution, claiming a lack of basic equipment, dilapidated infrastructure and inadequate services for patients.

One of the citizens has recounted a serious situation, saying that family members hospitalized have been forced to deal with the lack of hygienic conditions and functional toilets, which according to them shows the degraded state of the institution.

'I had my husband hospitalized here, shame on me. I didn't have, I'm saying it in Albanian, where to pee. He even peed at the hospital door... no bathroom, no water, nothing. Even the daughter-in-law peed at the hospital door, at 2 am. I salute Dr. Sokolin, he's a great doctor. But the conditions are s..., not Albanian at all, they are s.... We did pee everywhere, inside, even at the hospital door. Shame on me! My husband was speechless, because I have a foreign husband. He was ashamed to pee at the hospital door. No public bathroom! Shame, shame, shame, shame!', said one of the protesters.

Strong concerns have also been raised by dialysis patients, who say they are forced to travel to Fier to receive the service, due to the lack of this service in Lushnje. They have also criticized the transportation compensation, describing it as insufficient for the real costs they face. The protesters have demanded urgent intervention from the institutions to improve conditions in the hospital, restore basic services and guarantee dignified treatment for patients.

They emphasized that the current situation is burdening not only the patients, but also their families, while demanding that the issue not remain unresolved.
