Berisha: Enea Mekolli is a hero twice, his killer was financed with state funds

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, began today's press conference at the Blue Headquarters by expressing condolences to the family of police officer Enea Mekolli, who lost his life during a police operation.

Berisha described the 36-year-old as a "national martyr" and accused the government of being involved in the crime, claiming that the suspected perpetrator of the murder, although he had been wanted for years, had received support and funding from state structures. According to him, the serious incident is evidence of the state's failure to guarantee order and security in the country.

Berisha : I would like to express my deepest condolences to the family, friends, relatives of the national martyr, Enea Mekolli, and the community of Maliqi.
I condemn with the greatest force this ugly crime, sponsored by the state, which is inextricably linked to crime.
Enea Mekolli was an idealistic young man who, after his brother in the police passed away due to an illness, sought to continue his brother's mission, ensuring the life, activity, and law of Albanian citizens.
In this respect, he is a martyr twice.
And his family is a family with very great contributions to the security of citizens, life, activity, order, and law of Albanian citizens.
But, as painful as the cruel murder by a criminal hand of a police officer on duty is, so criminal and ugly is the attitude of the drug state towards the murderer, who had been wanted for 9 years, supposedly wanted, and who was financed by state funds to build stables, guesthouses, buildings, and raise livestock as if he were an honorable farmer.
The murder of Enea Mekolli proves in the clearest way that order, law, and security in this country are in the hands of crime. They are in the hands of criminals.
The murderer of Enea Mekolli could not have been wanted for 9 years, raising livestock and stables without the strong support of the government.
And as the documents prove, that support also came with free financing for his activities.
Today, the life of every Albanian is in the hands of crime, and this is due to the sole fact that the government is closely linked to crime.
Therefore, this is a terribly shocking event.
He was killed in the line of duty.
He was killed in the execution of the law.
