US Senate confirms Eric Wendt as US ambassador to Albania

American General Eric Wendt has taken an important step towards being appointed as the new United States ambassador to Albania, after his candidacy was approved by the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

The proposal made by the American President secured broad support from both parties, receiving 19 votes in favor and only 3 against. After this vote, Wendt's candidacy will be subject to final consideration and vote in the plenary session of the Senate, which will decide on his official confirmation.

Eric Wendt is a career officer with more than three decades of experience in the U.S. military and is considered an expert on national security and special operations issues. He graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a degree in Law and Society, and then completed his master's degree in National Security at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey.

His military career began in 1986, and since 1991 he has served in the US Army Special Forces as part of the elite units known as the "Green Berets".

In recent years, Wendt has held key roles in some of the most prominent U.S. military operations, serving in the Pacific region, the Philippines, Iraq and Afghanistan. He has also held leadership positions at various levels of Special Forces and held senior positions in the Pentagon, including principal military assistant to the Secretary of Defense.

If confirmed by the Senate, Wendt will succeed the US embassy in Tirana at a time when cooperation in the field of security and defense remains one of the main pillars of relations between the US and Albania.
