Trump admits clash with Netanyahu: I asked him to stop the escalation in Lebanon

US President Donald Trump has confirmed that he had a tense conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding Israel's military operations in Lebanon and the risk of escalating the conflict in the region.

In an interview with the New York Post, Trump admitted that he had used harsh tones during the call with Netanyahu, expressing concern about the continuation of fighting and threats of attacks on the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

According to Trump, he urged his Israeli counterpart to avoid further escalation of the situation. "I told Bibi we had to stop this," the US president said, adding that he was concerned by recent developments on the Israeli-Lebanese front.

The statements shed light on the tensions that have existed between the two leaders, who have publicly maintained a close political relationship, despite occasional disagreements.

However, Trump was careful to emphasize that his relationship with Netanyahu remains positive. He said they have worked well together over the years and that he continues to have respect for the Israeli prime minister.

According to American media reports, Trump's main concern is related to the possibility that a wider conflict in Lebanon could damage diplomatic efforts to resume negotiations with Iran and reduce tensions in the Middle East.

Despite the debate between them, the American president described the recent phone call with Netanyahu as "very productive," implying that cooperation between Washington and Jerusalem remains stable.

Trump's comments come at a time when the US is trying to advance a broader diplomatic solution to conflicts in the region, while the US administration continues to seek to limit Iran's nuclear program and guarantee the security of strategic shipping lanes in the Persian Gulf.
